OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 27, 2014) - Today, on behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, His Honour the Honourable Graydon Nicholas, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, presented the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Mr. Salem Masry, during a private ceremony at Government House, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Mr. Masry was appointed on May 25, 2012.
Salem Masry is an innovator in New Brunswick's scientific community. In 1979, he founded the CARIS company to commercialize the digital mapping technology he had developed at the University of New Brunswick. His ingenuity led to the first digital land-mapping system for the Maritime provinces, and to the development of digital charts for national hydrographic services and international shipping companies, which greatly improved marine safety. He also promotes technology transfer and education by partnering with universities to share his software and technical expertise.
