Hamiltonian re-elected vice-president of ETFO Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 17, 2005) -
Sam Hammond, a teacher with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, was re-elected vice-president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) at the federation's annual meeting today.

"My vision for ETFO includes empowering our members to be the leaders of tomorrow. I will continue to fight to ensure that ETFO members as teachers and ETFO as a federation have dynamic and positive futures," Hammond told the 600 delegates attending the annual meeting.

"My experiences as vice-president have reinforced my belief that an effective union leader must challenge the status quo when it stands in the way of progress and innovation and must be prepared to ask the tough questions and deal decisively with the responses."

This is Hammond's second term as full-time ETFO vice-president. He has been a teacher in Hamilton-Wentworth for 19 years and has taught physical education and health from grades JK to 8. He served the Hamilton-Wentworth ETFO Teacher Local as chief negotiator and grievance officer for five years.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) represents 65,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher union in Canada outside of Quebec.
