Same-Day Crowns Now Available at Rochester Family Dental Office

ROCHESTER, MN--(Marketwired - December 28, 2015) - A Rochester dental office has introduced technology that allows dentists to place beautiful and functional crowns on the same day the tooth is prepared.

Northwest Dental Group recently began using the Planmeca crown mill, a system that implements CAD/CAM technology to produce permanent porcelain crowns in about 90 minutes. The new equipment takes a digital impression, creates a 3-D model of the new crown and then mills the restoration in the office.

"We are extremely excited about this new technology because it cuts down the time patients have to spend in the office and gives them optimal results," said Dr. Katie Post, who operates Northwest Dental Group.

Traditional crowns are placed over the course of two or three visits. While Northwest Dental Group does offer durable conventional crowns, the Planmeca crown mill allows Dr. Post and her associates to prepare a tooth and place the restoration during the same visit, eliminating the need for a temporary crown restoration.

Temporary restorations are typically made from acrylic and do not match the natural color of the patient's teeth. Additionally, temporary crowns can often be uncomfortable and are more inclined to dislodge than permanent crowns.

Dr. Post said the Planmeca crown mill allows her office to find the best fit and color shade for the crown.

"We are staying at the forefront of technology by adding the Planmeca crown mill," Dr. Post said. "Patients can expect great results while enjoying the convenience they have grown accustomed to at Northwest Dental Group."
