San Carlos Dentist Offers Treatment for Super-Erupted Molars

SAN CARLOS, CA--(Marketwired - June 25, 2015) - Ghina Morad, a leading San Carlos cosmetic dentist, has successfully completed a unique orthodontic treatment to fix super-erupted teeth and restore a patient’s chewing ability.

Dr. Morad, who operates the comprehensive practice Dr. Morad Aesthetic and Family Dentistry, is skilled in providing general dentistry and orthodontic treatments. She recently used a special orthodontic method to fix a patient’s super-erupted molars that were at risk of being extracted.

A super-erupted tooth occurs when the opposing tooth is lost and not replaced. Because the tooth on the opposite arch now has nothing to bite against, it can rise out of its socket and grow into the missing space.

“This is a condition that causes patients significant distress and discomfort,” Dr. Morad said. “Having super-erupted teeth makes it difficult to chew, and maybe even worse, patients are often ashamed to smile.”

Dr. Morad’s patient had lost her lower molars in a car accident when she was younger. The loss of the lower molars caused the upper molars to come down to the point that they nearly touched the lower gums. Dr. Morad used orthodontic bone anchors to shift the upper teeth back into their natural position. The treatment did not require surgery and allowed the patient to have dental implants put in place of her lower missing molars. “The patient saw three orthodontists before coming to us and was about to lose four upper molars, but now she doesn't have to,” Dr. Morad said. “This particular patient was starting to lose hope that the problem could be fixed, so we’re extremely happy to see her smiling with confidence again.”

Dr. Morad purchased her practice in 2003. She offers preventive dentistry, restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and TMJ treatment. Her individual services include cleanings, dental sealants, metal-free fillings, onlays, crowns, bridges, teeth-whitening treatment, veneers, root canals, implant restoration, traditional braces, Invisalign and ClearCorrect. Dr. Morad offers both headgear splints and Botox treatment for patients with TMD. The Botox injections are used to relieve jaw tension that causes joint issues.

Dr. Morad graduated first in her class from Boston University, earning membership into the prestigious Dental Honor Society. She began practicing dentistry in 1996 and worked in the Bay Area before starting her own practice. She also taught as a clinical instructor at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. She has completed courses in veneer design and preparation, orthodontics, digital smile design and advanced specialized dental-facial orthodontics.

Dr. Morad uses digital X-rays for instant results and clearer images, digital intraoral cameras, and the DIAGNOdent laser-cavity detector. She also provides oral conscious sedation.

Dr. Morad is a member of national dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon and was nominated for the Best of the Bay and featured on Top Doc, a segment on “The Dr. Oz Show.”
