San Diego Community Partners Initiative Reaches 100-Event Milestone

SanDiego.com to Expand Program for Nonprofit Events

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - May 24, 2011) - SanDiego.com's Community Partners initiative has reached its 100-event milestone only five months since its January launch. The program's goal was to award $250,000 worth of sponsorship grants to 100 local events in San Diego in 2011.

Major San Diego organizations that have benefitted from the program include the Gaslamp Quarter Association, East Village Association, ArtWalk San Diego, North Park Main Street Association and the San Diego Arts and Culture Commission.

"It is astonishing to see this program become such a huge success in just a few short months," said Jenny Mathieu, project manager of the Community Partners program. "Because of the overwhelming and positive responses received from local businesses and event producers, we have decided to add a second leg to the program for the rest of the year."

SanDiego.com will extend the program for the remainder of the year to include an additional 50 spots exclusively for non-profit and charity-partnered events. Approximately 50 percent of Community Partner events are currently organized by a non-profit organization or benefit a charitable cause.

Each Community Partner application undergoes an evaluation process that consists of assessing the event's potential to promote the community at large as well as its ability to cater to the interests of San Diegans; only not-for-profit applications will be considered for the rest of the year.

If awarded free sponsorship, events receive many benefits including free advertising on SanDiego.com and on the SanDiego.com Facebook page, with an impressive fan base of 90,000 and growing at a rate of approximately 1,000 new fans weekly.

"SanDiego.com is here to help San Diego flourish as a community," continued Mathieu. "We help events get the exposure they need at no cost. This results in increased foot traffic to all areas of San Diego, which in turn benefits the city and its economy as a whole."
