San Diego Plastic Surgery Institute: How Long Does a Liquid Facelift Last?

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 31, 2016) - The liquid facelift is one of the hottest trends in most cosmetic surgery centers today. The liquid facelift is a non-surgical procedure that involves liquid injectable fillers that are injected into the skin of the face and can produce dramatic results without surgery. Sagging skin lifts, lines disappear, jowls vanish. This procedure is called a liquid facelift, it is a quick and popular way to get back a youthful look.

Dr. Antoine Hallak, a San Diego Plastic Surgeon, says, "The big question for most patients is how long does it last. It's not permanent but its duration can vary based on what products are injected and several other factors." Here is closer look.

How Long Does It Last?

According to the Liquid Face Lift Association, the duration of the liquid facelift depends on these factors:

  • Specific products injected
  • Where the product is placed
  • Touch-up treatments, specifically how often they are done and the timing
  • Quality of medical care

The type of product used plays a critical role in how long the liquid facelift lasts. Here is a look at the most common injectable used today.

Botox usually lasts three to six months. If injected in areas that has "low muscle activity," or in patients with small amounts of muscle mass, the procedure lasts longer.

Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus usually last a year or longer before the patient needs to return to the doctor for a touch-up.

Radiesse lasts a year or more, especially if the patient returns for regular touchups.

Sculptra can last up to two years or longer. More so than other products, the skill of the physician plays a big part in how long it lasts and how good it looks.

Restylane and Perlane last for four to nine months before a touchup is needed.

What Can You Expect?

The goal with a liquid facelift, like any cosmetic surgery procedure, is to look natural. If the effect is just "different," the facelift wasn't a success. With that in mind, this type of work can make a striking difference in your face. Your friends are likely to look puzzled and ask if you've lost weight or changed your makeup.

Here are specific changes that a liquid facelift can produce:

  • Slight jowls will disappear.
  • Sagging skin looks lifted and filled out.
  • Vertical lip lines will be less noticeable.
  • Crow's feet will be less distinct.
  • Marionette lines along the nose and chin will be reduced.
  • Bands in the neck below the chin that come with age can are less in evidence.
