San Diego's Advertising Experts at SDX Collaborate With the San Diego Union-Tribune for a 50 Year Retrospective of Super Bowl Advertising

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - January 20, 2016) - SDX, San Diego's premier media, marketing and technology organization, has partnered with the San Diego Union-Tribune for a blog series (#SuperAds) looking at the history of Super Bowl advertising. The series will review topics like who advertises and why, the cost of advertising during the game, as well as categories of commercials and what makes some ads stand out. Readers will also have a chance to weigh in on favorite ads, and whether or not they agree with expert "picks."

"Well over 100 million people tune in to watch the Super Bowl," said SDX President Doug Hecht. "If your commercial is a hit, in 30 seconds your company could be a household name. If it's a flop, you still could be a household name, but not in a good way. There's a lot riding on this single effort."

The blog series is being curated by SDX Board Chairman Michael Warburton, Brand Manager at San Diego Zoo Global, and will feature commentary from a variety of subject matter experts within the SDX membership.

Warburton said, "The diversity of talent and expertise within the membership of SDX is incredible, and this allows me to find several different professional viewpoints about many Super Bowl ad topics. Even for non-marketing people it is interesting and engaging."

Britt Nevetsky, Director of Marketing for the Union-Tribune and SDX Board Member is thrilled with the partnership. "Super Bowl ads have had a major impact on our culture over the past 50 years. It's great that we can leverage local expertise for such a heady topic."

The series will feature posts leading up to, and after, the big game on February 7th. The blog can be found at: or #SuperAds.
