San Francisco Chronicle Announces New Charitable Program, "San Francisco Chronicle Gives Back"

To Launch Program, San Francisco Chronicle Will Donate Advertising Space Valued at $1.5 Million to Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants' Favorite Charities

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2014) -  The San Francisco Chronicle has announced a new charitable program, "San Francisco Chronicle Gives Back," to help promote and bring awareness to non-profits of the Bay Area community and its businesses.

To launch the "San Francisco Chronicle Gives Back" program, the San Francisco Chronicle will start with the local restaurant community. The newspaper will donate a full-page print ad to each of the restaurants on the 19th annual Top 100 Bay Area restaurants guide from critic Michael Bauer, allowing them to lend support to their non-profit of choice. Each of the 100 ads provide an opportunity for the restaurants to promote their charity's upcoming fundraising events, highlight a specific cause or campaign, or simply build awareness for their charity of choice. The collection of ads will represent an in-kind donation totaling more than $1.5 million.

The "San Francisco Chronicle Gives Back" program will work with various industries, businesses and community members to shine a spotlight on the charities they support. The San Francisco Chronicle will create a special "Philanthropy" section on for those participating in the program, starting with the Top 100 restaurants, in partnership with their charity, to contribute a written story about why giving back is critical in the Bay Area and in their industry.
