San Francisco Chronicle Introduces Improved Electronic Edition to Readers and Local Educators

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 13, 2009) - The San Francisco Chronicle, the Bay Area's most widely-read newspaper, has launched an enhanced, exact, digital reproduction of the newspaper. The Chronicle's e-edition now offers its readers a better way to find the information they want quickly and in the format that's most convenient to them.

"Always convenient and environmentally friendly, The Chronicle's e-edition provides readers with a quick and easy way to access the newspaper from any computer," said Chris Blaser, vice president, circulation. "In addition to the great content that is in the newspaper every day, readers now have new ways to access this information through the unique features made available with the e-edition."

The Chronicle e-edition allows readers to have Chronicle stories read to them through an audio read-back feature. Text can be enlarged to make reading on screen easier, and articles can be translated into one of 11 languages.

There are also more advanced search options available to help readers find current and past articles. Plus, articles can now be downloaded to provide access through a variety of mobile devices such as an iPhone or Kindle. E-edition readers also have access to a 30-day archive of newspapers.

The Chronicle in Education program provides the newly enhanced e-edition on a daily basis to over 25,000 students and teachers throughout the Bay Area through the generosity of Corporate Partners in Education and Chronicle readers. Students and teachers use the electronic version of the newspaper as a reliable resource in the classroom or for homework, like research papers, through the use of electronic archives. In addition, this product helps teachers meet part of the statewide digital educational goals. Educators and students have access to a one-year archive of newspapers through the e-edition. Sponsorship opportunities for the Chronicle in Education program are available to interested individuals and organizations.

The new Chronicle e-edition is provided in partnership with Tecnavia, an industry-leading provider of pre-press software.
