San Ramon Valley High School Celebrates 100 Years

Homecoming Kicks Off Centennial Celebration; Alumni From Several Decades Participate in Parade Through Downtown Danville

DANVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - October 5, 2010) - A Bay Area high school celebrates a milestone this week as faculty, alumni and Danville officials gather together to honor San Ramon Valley High School's (SRVHS) 100th birthday at its homecoming game in the new high school stadium.

The annual celebration kicks off on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 beginning at 2:35pm with the homecoming parade through downtown Danville. Mrs. Millie Freitas, a graduate from the class of 1936, is the parade's Grand Marshal, and Eric Kellner, a graduate from the class of 1959, will escort her in a 1929 Ford Roadster. In addition, Danville Mayor Mike Doyle will take part in the parade, which will feature cars from each decade and alumni representing six decades, including a descendent from the first graduating class of 1914.

"Our community is proud to honor San Ramon Valley High School and its significant accomplishments over the past century," said Mike Doyle, Mayor, Town of Danville. "I am thrilled to be part of the100-year celebration in a very special homecoming for this esteemed high school."

According to Joe Ianora, principal for SRVHS, there are a lot of notable people who've walked the halls of San Ramon Valley from 1910 to 2010. "In recent history, we've had Mark 'Mad Dog' Madsen, a former professional basketball player, Nate Schierholtz, who plays for the San Francisco Giants, and Randy Winn who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. The list is impressive and long, and we look forward to celebrating with several alumni throughout the school year in observance of the school's 100-year anniversary. The homecoming festivities are just the beginning of several events planned over the next nine months."

San Ramon Valley High School was established in 1910 and it is the second oldest high school in Contra Costa County. SRVHS is a National Blue Ribbon school, a four-time California Distinguished School and a fully WASC-accredited public high school.
