Sandeman Debuts New Addition to Its Vintage Porto Collection

Port and Sherry House Releases 2011 Vintage Porto in the U.S.

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 08, 2013) - Sandeman Porto, the world's leading port and sherry company, announces today the release of the Sandeman 2011 Vintage Porto, which is now available for purchase in the U.S. market.

Following the award-winning Sandeman 2007 Vintage Porto, the 2011 Vintage Porto was carefully selected as the next premium release, as the 2011 growth cycle boasted perfect conditions needed for Vintage production. The vinification process was intense, precise and carefully monitored to achieve the color, flavor and tannin components of a Vintage Porto, and the final blend was assembled after a rigorous and lengthy qualitative tasting process. Over the last two years, in the quest for the highest possible quality, the 2011 Vintage Porto has continued to evolve under the watchful eye of the Sandeman Porto winemaking team and was bottled in April 2013.

"From the start, we all felt the excitement and belief that such a promising harvest could deliver Portos of enormous potential," says Luís Sottomayor, Head Winemaker for Sandeman Porto. "In all my experience as a winemaker, I have never witnessed Portos with such depth of color, complexity of flavor, structure and power. Over the last two years, our expectations have been realized and we are confident that the Sandeman 2011 Vintage Porto has an extremely long future ahead of it."

The Sandeman 2011 Vintage Porto is almost opaque in color with a purple and deep crimson hue on the rim. On the nose, it is layered with aromas of black forest fruits (blueberry and cassis), oak-aging notes of cedar and cigar boxes, as well as exhilarating hints of spice, such as nutmeg, saffron and black pepper. On the palate, lively and powerful tannins are integrated with fresh and elegant acidity to support rich flavors of ripe red berry fruits, including strawberries and raspberries. The finish is persistent, intricate and memorable.

The grapes for the Sandeman 2011 Vintage Porto are sourced mainly from Quinta do Vau and Quinta do Seixo. The final blend by grape variety is 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz, 5% Tinto Cão and 5% Sousão.

Starting with its inception over two hundred years ago, the House of Sandeman has built its reputation as a pioneer through relentless innovation. In 1805, Sandeman created the GSC firemark, which was then seared into every Sandeman barrel and established the first-ever identifiable "brand." In 1928 Sandeman unveiled its iconic image, the black caped Don, and inaugurated one of the first trademarks ever created. Defined by originality, heritage and quality, the Sandeman 2011 Vintage Porto is a fitting expression of the House's pursuit of great taste.
