SanDiego.com Launches San Diego Mascot Competition

Taking the Search for a New San Diego Mascot to the People

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - February 14, 2011) - Online event and activities guide, SanDiego.com, is putting out a call to amateur artists and individuals to submit design entries for a new San Diego mascot.

"We haven't had a mascot for San Diego since The Chicken went rogue back in the '80s," said Victoria Stanley, creative director at SanDiego.com. "We think it's about time the people of San Diego have something to rally around again."

The search is open to amateur artists and individuals interested in creating the concept that will represent San Diego for years to come. There will be winners in four different age brackets: under 15, ages 15-18, 19-21, and 22 and above, with a $500 prize for best entry in each age bracket. A grand prize for the overall winning design will be an exclusive "staycation" package in San Diego, including a weekend hotel stay, dinner and entertainment for four.

"As the Go-To online source in San Diego, it only makes sense for SanDiego.com to host the search for the new symbol and mascot of America's Finest City," Stanley continued. 

The winning mascot design will be picked on the basis of how it sums up the county as a whole, and the positive impact it will produce for San Diego. Entries will be judged by a panel of San Diego business and civic leaders, along with media personalities.
