Sandoz Canada Is Committed to Maintain a Supply of Injectable Medicines During Work Stoppage by Unionized Employees at Its Boucherville Facility

BOUCHERVILLE, QC--(Marketwired - June 07, 2016) - Sandoz Canada would like to reassure customers and patients that it will continue to supply necessary medicines despite a strike launched today by unionized employees at its facility in Boucherville, Quebec.

"During this difficult time, our priority is to ensure that our customers and patients do not experience any difficulty in receiving the medicines the healthcare system needs. We believe that our inventory of injectable products is sufficient to ensure that this will be the case," said Michel Robidoux President and General Manager of Sandoz Canada. "However, to allow for a fair distribution, we have decided to put in place a proactive allocation system, similar to what we use during the vacation period. This temporary allocation system will help us preserve and manage the right inventory levels and respond to patient/customer needs."

On May 14, 2016, the unionized employees of Sandoz Canada, members of the Teamsters, Local 1999, voted 91.5% in favour of a strike. The employees' last collective agreement expired on December 31, 2015.

"We have been in negotiations with the union since October 2015 and are disappointed by this development," said Mr. Robidoux. "We are making every effort to reach a solution that is right for our employees, is sustainable for our business, and ensures that patients have continued access to important medicines. We hope to resume discussions shortly and fully expect that we will be able to reach an agreement that works for all parties concerned. Over the past 30 years we have built a strong industrial peace and it's our objective to continue to do so."

Sandoz Canada manufactures injectable medicines in different formats that are used in hospitals and long-term care centres across the country. It also distributes a number of other products, including pills, antibiotics and lyophilised products, which are not subject to the allocation system because they are not manufactured in Boucherville.

Information on the availability of each injectable product can be found on the company's multiplatform search engine, Sandoz Pro (, or the Canadian drug shortage database ( Customers can also contact Sandoz Canada Customer Service at 1-800-361-3062 or email
