Sandvine Sets New Performance Benchmark for Intelligent Broadband Solutions

Sandvine's PTS 14000s scale to 80 Gbps supporting the world's largest networks

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 7, 2007) - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC)(AIM:SAND) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for DSL, FTTH, cable, and wireless carriers, today announced that some of the world's major broadband providers are clustering Sandvine's carrier-class PTS 14000 platform to support up to 80 Gbps of traffic. This unrivaled performance can easily handle traffic at large broadband providers' highest traffic locations, where there are multiple Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet links.

Hanaro, a leading Korean service provider with 3.6 million broadband subscribers, is one provider using the clustering approach.

"Sandvine has clearly recognized the challenges for major tier-one service providers to deploy DPI (deep packet inspection) solutions with the huge volume of subscriber traffic and asymmetric routing in the network," said Hyunchan Kim, Managing Director, Backbone Network Team, Network Technology Unit at Hanaro. "The PTS 14000 has enabled Hanaro to launch new revenue-generating services and to further improve our service reliability in a very competitive market. With the Sandvine cluster approach, we were able to differentiate our service offering without any changes to the underlying network."

A single PTS 14000 can handle up to 10 Gbps Ethernet traffic - the only commercially available solution currently capable of that performance. Seven leading carriers around the world have already purchased the PTS 14000, including a major tier-one US broadband provider that has used a clustering approach to achieve the full 80 Gbps performance.

The PTS 14000 platform gives service providers broad visibility into network traffic along with a rich portfolio of DPI-based policy solutions to ensure a quality online experience for all subscribers. Sandvine's industry-leading solutions let service providers effectively manage file-sharing traffic, control malicious traffic, including spam and DoS (denial of service) attacks, introduce new quota-based services, launch premium multimedia services (IPTV, VoIP, gaming, streaming media), ensure VoIP application quality, and identify network-wide application trends.

"The growing interest in our PTS 14000 reflects the urgent need among broadband providers for a proven 10 Gigabit Ethernet solution that can scale to support their busiest aggregation points," said Marc Morin, CTO at Sandvine. "Extremely high-traffic locations have multiple 10 Gigabit Ethernet links and traffic for the same subscriber may actually enter and exit on different links - this asymmetric routing can make traffic identification a guessing game. As a result, Sandvine developed a unique architecture with multiple PTS 14000 platforms sharing flow intelligence as a single, integrated Virtual Switch Cluster. Network operators can be confident that applications are accurately identified and that their subscribers are enjoying a high-quality online experience."

The PTS 14000 platform is easily transformed into an integrated Virtual Switch Cluster by connecting additional platforms with high-speed optical connections. As a result, the cluster size can be optimized for each network location by seamlessly adding more platforms to deliver up to 80 Gbps of performance. This is achieved without the requirement for any external switch ports. Additionally, carriers can ensure high availability of this intelligent network layer by deploying cost-effective, redundant configurations.

Sandvine's award-winning network equipment helps DSL, FTTH, cable, and wireless broadband service providers characterize what is really happening on their networks, enabling polices that improve customer satisfaction, reduce operational costs and increase profitability. Sandvine's DPI-based policy solutions are both application and subscriber-aware, empowering service providers to better manage network traffic congestion, mitigate the proliferation of malicious traffic, and deliver QoS-prioritized multimedia services. With 73 customers in 33 countries, Sandvine is enhancing the Internet experience for millions of broadband users worldwide.
