Article Discusses Features, Capabilities, and the Development of STS-111 Airship

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL and STUTTGART, GERMANY--(Marketwire - August 28, 2009) - Sanswire-TAO Corp. (, the airship development and manufacturing joint venture equally owned by Sanswire Corp. (OTCBB: SNSR) ( and TAO Technologies GmbH, was featured in IEEE Spectrum, a flagship monthly publication of IEEE, the world's largest professional technology association.

The article, written by Jean Kumagai, titled "German-U.S. Company to Loft Segmented, Self-Steering Airship" can be accessed at:

In the article, Professor Bernd Kröplin of University of Stuttgart, discusses the origin of the STS-111. Professor Kröplin and his colleagues spent over fifteen years refining their initial concept of the airship during which time more than thirty prototypes were built and thousands of flight tests conducted. TAO Technologies was formed in 2002 to commercialize the concept. The article highlights the advantages of the STS-111, "Unlike dirigibles, blimps, and other aircraft in the 'lighter than air' category, the new airship isn't piloted or controlled remotely: From takeoff through landing, its flight is entirely autonomous. No other airship has such a capability."

The piece goes on to explain the autonomous operation and flight control software, which allows the vehicle to ascend and descend on its own. In the article the company also explains, "Sanswire-TAO's ultimate goal is to loft an airship that can ascend to the lower stratosphere, about 18 kilometers up, and fly for weeks or even months at a time."

Sanstwire-TAO is currently conducting flight tests on the prototype in preparation for testing of the full-scale version of the STS-111.
