Santa Barbara 100 Names Cottage Children's Medical Center as New Charity Partner

Charity List Grows as SB100 Event's Financial Goal Doubles to $100,000 for 2015

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwired - July 29, 2015) - The Santa Barbara 100 (SB100), presented by Silver Air, has partnered with Cottage Children's Medical Center, in its efforts to help raise critical funds and awareness for statewide non-profit organizations.

Through this partnership, Cottage Children's Medical Center joins SB100's list of local charities alongside the Emory Foundation, the Santa Barbara Bike Coalition, and the Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

"The Santa Barbara 100 is a world class cycling event, but it's also so much more than that -- we're a non-profit organization raising money for important charities like Cottage Children's Medical Center," said Tricia Middleton, Santa Barbara 100 Marketing and Sponsorship Director. "The Cottage Children's Medical Center is our hometown hospital, one that has touched many of our lives. Speaking for the entire SB100 board, we are honored to be working with such a great organization."

The Santa Barbara 100 is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with an all-volunteer board and no paid staff. The Santa Barbara 100 will donate all money raised over expenses to the event's charities, with a goal of raising $100,000 for donations in 2015.

Cottage Children's Medical Center is a part of Cottage Health, a Santa Barbara-based health system. For more than 125 years, the not-for-profit organization has been providing advanced medical care for patients throughout California, with a mission to serve its community with excellence, integrity and compassion.

The Emory Foundation supports parents and families grieving the loss of a baby by providing local resources and funding programs that assist the family before, during and after the loss. The Emory Foundation funds programs that offer free grief counseling services, provides financial assistance to grieving families in need, and funds an annual scholarship for local nurses specializing in pediatrics or neonatal care.

The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE) is a countywide advocacy and resource organization that promotes bicycling for safe transportation and recreation. Bici Centro, a project of SBBIKE, is a community DIY bicycle repair shop and education center, with the goal of facilitating skill share and increasing reliability and safety for Santa Barbara area bicyclists.

The Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Program was established by Santa Barbara locals Norm and Tricia Popp in 2005 after their son Andrew tragically passed away. From its humble beginnings ten years ago, the fund now assists in educating more than 1,500 students from the slums of Uganda and Kenya.

"Cottage Health has served Santa Barbara for more than a century, and we're here because of the generosity of our community. Each year we are able to provide new services and technology, and help more and more people in need, with support from organizations like Silver Air and the Santa Barbara 100," said Steven Barkley, MD, Chief Pediatric Medical Officer at Cottage Children's Medical Center.

The Santa Barbara 100 will take place October 17, 2015, starting at Leadbetter Beach and leading participants through some of the most beautiful and challenging cycling routes in the United States. For more information or to register, visit http://sb100.org.
