Santa Claus Parade on November 18: Children are Invited to Attend the Parade in Downtown Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 6, 2006) - Benoit Labonte, mayor of the Ville-Marie borough and member of the Montreal executive committee responsible for culture, heritage, downtown and design, invites children and families to attend the Santa Claus parade on Saturday, November 18, and marvel at the colourful floats along the streets of the Ville-Marie borough.

"I have just received a letter from the North Pole saying that Santa Claus will be back in Montreal. Our city is a great destination in all seasons, but Christmas is truly a special time of the year for Montreal families," said Mayor Labonte. He is inviting children, the young at heart, as well as visitors, to discover or rediscover downtown and its festive atmosphere.

Thousands of spectators will enjoy a dozen or so original floats, including the Christmas Fairy and Santa Claus. Several groups representing Montreal's ethnic communities, marching bands, choirs and dance troupes will be part of the parade, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade will follow Sainte-Catherine Street, between Du Fort and Saint-Urbain streets.

The Santa Claus parade is brought to you by the Fabrique du Carnaval and the Societe de developpement commercial Destination centre-ville, whose mission is to develop, improve and promote downtown Montreal. Montreal has been supporting this event for several years, by overseeing the safety of spectators and providing logistics and technical assistance to the promoters.
