ATTN: BC News and Assignment Editors for Sunday, December 18 at 2 p.m. - Vancouver

Santa Claus will arrive in Vancouver on Sunday, December 18 to celebrate International Migrants Day and join in a protest calling for the Mexico government and its Vancouver consulate to stop the blacklisting of Mexican migrant farm workers in British Columbia suspected of being union supporters.

Santa - one of the world's most famous migrant workers - will be joined by hundreds of community, labour and human rights activists along with the Solidarity Choir, for a festive, feisty and song-filled Vancouver community gathering at 2 p.m. at the Library Square on George Street. Along with the mirth, Santa will also display his 'Who's Been Naughty' list, with Mexico at the top for its alleged blacklisting activities detailed in charges filed by UFCW Canada Local 1518 with the BC Labour Board (background information and documents at www.ufcw.ca/stoptheblacklisting).

At Sunday's gathering, Santa will also be collecting Wish Letters for respect and dignity for migrant workers, and for a stop to the blacklisting. The Wish List will be delivered to the Mexico Consulate in Vancouver before Christmas.
