Santa Comes To Bay Street's ("Santa") 7th annual, Santa's Workshop, is just around the corner! On November 21st, 2011, hundreds of volunteers from Bay Street will gather at the Design Exchange to help prepare individualized gift bags for over 1200 women and children currently living in shelters across Toronto.

"It is truly remarkable how this has gone from a grass roots operation of independently helping a few families in need, every holiday season, to an explosion of hundreds of volunteers, over a thousand mothers and children receiving stuffed gift bags, and an incredible venue to hold Santa's Workshop!" stated Fabiene Evans, Co-Founder, Santa Comes to Bay Street.

"We could only imagine how being a single mother would be terribly difficult, so we wanted to help, but we wanted to do more than simply provide a toy during the holiday season, we wanted to provide recipients with essentials they could use all year such as warm clothing, art & crafts, gloves, pyjamas, and so on. Having the ability to go to the website and select your own family also makes the experience more personal." continued Fabiene Evans.

How it works:

1. Torontonians ("Elves") select families, or individual recipients, online and help make their holiday dreams come true by purchasing their "wish" (ie. a globe, or hat and mitts) and then bringing that gift to Santa's Workshop, on November 21st, 2011.

2. Additional items that have been generously donated by Santa's Helpers, can then be added to the gift bags, such as pyjamas, toiletries, and socks.

3. The bags are then assembled and delivered to various shelters currently participating in Santa Comes to Bay Street.

This year Santa's workshop will be preparing gift bags and providing support for Nellies, YorkTown, North York Women's Shelter, Julliette's Place and Rosalie Hall.

"The Rosalie Hall Young Parent Resource Centre wishes to thank everyone connected with Santa Comes to Bay Street. This is so much more than just gifts to those in need; it is hope for better times to come, and renewed faith in a community that obviously cares. Thank you all for your support of the young families we serve." Larissa Bholaramsingh, Manager of Development, Rosalie Hall.

Santa's workshop would not be possible without the help of Santa's Helpers, including the many volunteers and the gracious support of: Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Nova Scotia, Freedom International, Shorcan Brokers Limited, Sprott Asset Management, Desjardins, Bullion Management Group, Inc, JC Clark, Cormark, McDonalds, Toronto Marlies, AirBoss of America Corp, Regulus, Dr. Andrew Lee & Associates.

About Santa Comes To Bay Street: Santa Comes To Bay Street is a registered, not-for-profit charity, which is dedicated to helping families, over the holiday season, who are either currently in shelters or in outreach programs throughout Toronto.
