WOODBRIDGE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 21, 2010) -

Editor's Note: A photo for this release will be available via Marketwire on the picture wire of The Canadian Press.

SANYO Canada Inc. (SANYO) and Panasonic Canada Inc. (Panasonic) announce that they have teamed up to supply equipment for the venue of the 2010 International Plowing Match taking place September 21-25 in St. Thomas, Ontario. SANYO will provide HIT Power® solar modules together with Panasonic batteries in a custom off-grid solar power system.

The supplied power system includes 3k of SANYO HIT Power® solar modules, split between one ground-mounted array and another mounted on the roof of a temporary event structure. In order to function as an off-grid installation, the system also features a 27.8kW bank of Panasonic lead acid batteries. Installed by Tiltran Services Inc., the system will provide power for the venue hosted by the City of St. Thomas who, along with St. Thomas Energy Services Inc. and Presstran Industries, also played a key role in bringing the project to life.

This year's International Plowing Match will feature an assortment of events and shows, including concerts, equipment demonstrations, cooking programs, races, informational seminars, talent contests, and of course, a plowing competition. The family event provides an excellent opportunity for community members to get an up-close look at integrated energy solutions that have valuable applications in the rural market.

"We are very happy to be working together with Panasonic on this project," said Koshi Terakawa, President of SANYO Canada. "By combining our energy-related products, we look forward to generating synergy and providing high-performance energy solutions in the Canadian market."

The collaborative sourcing for this project marks the first Canadian project resulting in the integration of both SANYO and Panasonic equipment following the landmark deal involving their respective parent companies, where Panasonic Corporation acquired a controlling stake in SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. in late 2009. It was announced in July that Panasonic would buy out the remaining common stock from SANYO to make it a wholly-owned subsidiary.

By combining key components, both SANYO and Panasonic are able to apply their respective strengths to create quality solutions for a variety of energy-related applications.

Future combined solutions are expected to be designed for a variety of applications, taking advantage of the newly available product range. Both SANYO and Panasonic are sure to continue their long history of innovation, working closely together in the coming year.
