Sarah McLachlan to Headline Free CP Holiday Train Event in Calgary

Holiday Train Celebrates 15 Years of Fundraising for Calgary Food Bank

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Nov. 12, 2013) - Grammy award winning singer Sarah McLachlan will be joined by Juno award winners, The Tenors to headline a free concert that also includes singer Matt Dusk, when the Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train makes its annual stop at Anderson Station in Calgary on Saturday, December 7, 2013.

"We are thrilled to join our friends Sarah and Matt, to help celebrate CP's Holiday Train and the amazing work they are doing to support the Food Bank and the people of Calgary, a city that has been very good to us over the years," said The Tenors.

This Holiday Train signature event, in support of the Calgary Food Bank, will be hosted by Peter Mansbridge and kicks-off with the opening of the North Pole Station at 4:00 p.m. followed by the concert, which begins at 5:00 p.m.

The North Pole Station, a magical village, will feature family-oriented interactive activities, including ice carving, hot chocolate and a chance for the kids to visit Santa before making their way to the concert stage.

While the event is free, those attending are asked to make a donation or bring non-perishable food items. Everything collected at each show stays in the community for local distribution.

"The holidays can be a stressful time for struggling families and individuals, with the pressure of knowing there isn't enough money for Christmas," said Calgary Food Bank CEO, James McAra. "We are so pleased to have the CP Holiday Train back for a 15th year. Not only for the amazing donations that will help so many, but as a thank you to such a generous community."

The Calgary stop is part of CP's 2013 Holiday Train program, which runs from November 25 until December 19, and features two brightly decorated trains travelling across Canada and the United States. Since 1999, the Holiday Train has raised about $7.4 million and about 3 million pounds of food for North American food shelves.

This extra-special Holiday Train event is one of only three stops across North American where Canadian Pacific has added additional star-power to help shine a spotlight on the railway's mission of raising food, money and awareness in the fight against hunger. Similar events will be held in Hamilton, Ontario on November 30 and in Cottage Grove, Minnesota on December 14.
