Saskatoon Air Show Pays Tribute to Canada's Veterans: Canada Remembers International Air Show

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 22, 2005) - On Sunday, August 21, the Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Albina Guarnieri paid tribute to Veterans' contributions and sacrifices at the annual Canada Remembers International Air Show.

The air show, which began in 1995, is the largest show dedicated to Veterans in Canada. Over the past 10 years, it has paid tribute to Veterans, inspired youth, honoured heroes and educated and entertained well over 300,000 Canadians and visitors.

"During the Year of the Veteran, airshows like the one here in Saskatoon remind us of the thousands of Canadians who took to the skies during the wars of the past century," explained Minister Guarnieri. "We look up to the daring feats performed in the air today and look back on the days of daring that defined the history of our air force Veterans."

This year's Canada Remembers International Air Show took place on August 20 and 21. Over tens of thousands of spectators were on hand to celebrate. Some of the highlights from the weekend included performances by the Snowbirds, the Canadian Armed Forces Sky Hawks, and a CF-18 Hornet. The air show also included a Veterans' parade and special exhibits.

2005 is the Year of the Veteran: Celebrate. Honour. Remember. Teach. Thank.
