Saskatoon Celebrates Canada Day in Diefenbaker Park

Member of Parliament Maurice Vellacott announces funding for the Optimist Club of Saskatoon


SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - May 5, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada is providing funding of $22,000 through the Celebrate Canada Program to the Optimist Club of Saskatoon for its Canada Day celebrations on July 1, 2015.

Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon-Wanuskewin), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Quick Facts

  • The day-long event will include an official ceremony, Canada Day cake, child- and family-friendly activities and games, live entertainment, a flea market, and kiosks featuring foods from diverse cultures. Celebrations will culminate with a fireworks display.
  • About 30,000 people are expected to take part in Canada Day activities in Diefenbaker Park.
  • The Department of Canadian Heritage provides financial support for activities organized on specific days during the Celebrate Canada period, from June 21 to July 1. The Celebrate Canada period includes National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24, Canadian Multiculturalism Day on June 27 and Canada Day on July 1.
