SaskCentral: Building Communities Through Respect Education

Saskatchewan credit unions support Canadian Red Cross and Respect In Sport

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - April 25, 2008) - Saskatchewan credit unions are exhibiting their commitment to communities through their sponsorship of Respect in Sport and the Canadian Red Cross toll-free Support Line, provided to the community through Red Cross and Sask Sport.

Respect in Sport is powerful and engaging, internet-based training, delivered to community and sport organizations. Saskatchewan credit union support enables coaches in Saskatchewan to receive this training free of charge. Coaches of all levels are encouraged to sign-up by visiting www.respectinsport.com.

The Support Line was created through a successful collaboration of the Canadian Red Cross, Sask Sport, SaskCulture, and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association. The toll-free Support line is available to adults involved with sport, culture, and recreation, such as coaches/leaders, board members, parents, spectators or other concerned adults. Callers receive information, support, advice, and referral to appropriate authorities as necessary.

Youth and family are important to Saskatchewan credit unions. As the Presenting Sponsor of both Respect in Sport and the Support Line, they have the potential to positively impact thousands of youth and their families in Saskatchewan with the message of respect.

"Saskatchewan credit unions are proud to sponsor Respect in Sport and the Support line," says Keith Nixon, Executive Vice-president of Democratic Support and Corporate Secretary of SaskCentral. "We believe that this training and support will provide coaches, officials, parents and volunteers with the knowledge needed to encourage a safe and respectful environment for youth in sport."

Concerned adults in need of support with an issue relating to abuse, bullying, harassment, or hazing in sport should call the Support Line at 1-866-773-5777. For more information about the Support Line or Respect in Sport visit www.redcross.ca/supportline.
