SaskCentral Recognized as One of Canada's Best Workplaces for 2007

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(CCNMatthews - April 24, 2007) - SaskCentral, the central organization for Saskatchewan credit unions, is being recognized in Canadian Business magazine as one of the 2007 Best Workplaces in Canada. The list was compiled by Great Place to Work Institute Canada and is being published in the April 23rd issue of the magazine.

The Institute defines a great place to work as one where employees trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with. The organization analyzed more than 20,000 confidential employee surveys for companies large and small before compiling the list. Companies are scored according to a Trust Index that focuses on five elements - credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

SaskCentral was ranked 13th on the list of 50, with a high score in all categories. The company was singled out for special mention in two areas - credibility and respect.

Keeping employees informed is a high priority for the organization. In addition to team meetings and an intranet, the company's CEO meets regularly with employees to update them on business plans, progress and achievements. SaskCentral also prides itself on the support it offers employees in furthering their education and a collaborative approach that involves employees in business planning.

"We're very pleased to be included in this list," says Sid Bildfell, CEO of SaskCentral. "It speaks to the amount of trust there is in our organization. We attract great people. We support them with training and resources, trust them with important information and involve them in planning. The result is a very positive work environment that seems more like a family than a team."

The Great Place To Work list is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a confidential survey completed by employees. The remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of human resources policies and procedures.

The Great Place To Work Institute is a research and management consultancy based in the U.S. with international affiliate offices throughout the world. It publishes Best Places to Work lists in 29 countries, including the 100 Best Places to Work in America that is published annually in Fortune magazine.
