Gayle Manley Re-elected to ETFO Executive Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 17, 2005) -
Gayle Manley, a teacher with the Algoma District School Board, has been re-elected to the Executive of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO). Manley was first elected to the ETFO provincial Executive in 2000.

Manley told the 600 delegates attending the ETFO annual meeting in Toronto that in the coming year she will work to "promote ETFO as the voice for public-funded education in Ontario."

She hopes to enhance the profile of equity and social justice concerns with the federation and the broader community. As well she will support policies and positions that "strengthen the partnerships between locals and the provincial organization."

"We can make great strides by building on the collective strength of our union and our membership," Manley said.

Manley began teaching in Peterborough in 1972, moving to Sault Ste. Marie in 1988. She has taught core French and English in the French Immersion program. Most recently she was a special education resource teacher. She has been the president of ETFO Algoma Teacher Local since 1998.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) represents 65,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher union in Canada outside of Quebec.
