Sausalito 4th of July Festivities Include Fireworks & Fundraising

SAUSALITO, CA--(Marketwire - June 18, 2009) - The City of Sausalito and the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce are once again hosting a full day of fun-filled festivity on the 4th of July, including a traditional parade, picnic in the park, kids games, live music, evening BBQ, and of course, a dazzling fireworks display that evening.

One of the few Bay Area cities still hosting fireworks, the small waterfront community of Sausalito is raising the money for its pyrotechnical display solely from private donations this year since the City can no longer underwrite the expense. A letter writing and email campaign have been launched to raise the necessary fireworks funding and civic leaders promise the "show will go on."

Local residents have stepped up to donate, as have local merchants and businesses, including Caffe Piccolo who will host a fireworks fundraiser on Friday, June 26th at 8 PM, following Sausalito's Friday night Jazz & Blues by the Bay concert. Mauro Dosolini, the owner of this waterfront European café, is making a generous donation towards the fireworks and is hosting this special event at his Sausalito restaurant to encourage others to contribute as well. Caffe Piccolo is located at 660 Bridgeway; admission to the event is free. The Caffe Piccolo event will feature live music and a BBQ.

The Sausalito Chamber of Commerce will once again be hosting evening festivities for the 4th of July at Gabrielson Park in downtown Sausalito. While there will be free seating on the lawn (first come, first serve), tables for six may be reserved in advance for $50-$100 depending on location.

The Chamber will also be providing great picnic food to purchase (gourmet hamburgers, sausages & kids meals) as well as their signature specialty platters which may be ordered in advance for only $50 each -- these include Uncle Sam Cheese, Patriotic Meat, Vegging Out, and the Red, White & Blue Dessert Fantasy platters. There will be live music featuring The Pulsators, beer, fine wine and special cocktails, including the famous Buena Vista Irish Coffee at the International Bar.

To reserve a table or pre-order a picnic platter, call the Chamber at 415.331.7262 ext. 202.

To make a donation towards the fireworks, please mail a check payable to the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce Fireworks to the Chamber at 10 Liberty Ship Way, Suite 250, Sausalito, CA 94965. Credit cards also accepted.

"The 4th falls on a Saturday this year, so we're anticipating an even bigger crowd, especially in this economy when people seem to be traveling less and staying close to home," said Chamber President, Cheryl Popp. "It's great for our merchants and our Buy Local campaign, and to ensure it's a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, we're working with the City and our public safety officials. We're urging residents and visitors alike to check our website for traffic advisories, parking and public transportation tips."
