Sausalito Tour de Cuisine Brings Cycling Fans Marin's Finest Gourmet Fare

SAUSALITO, CA--(Marketwire - February 11, 2009) - On the evening before the President's Day Stage Two Start of the Amgen Tour of California professional cycling race in Sausalito, elite riders from around the world will be on a strict intake of macronutrients, carbohydrates and electrolytes.

But not the revelers at the 4th Annual Sausalito Tour de Cuisine.

On Sunday, February 15, from 5-10 PM, the City of Sausalito and Sausalito Chamber of Commerce are once again hosting the popular "Tour de Cuisine." While the riders -- who are all staying in Marin County that night -- will be on their Spartan regimen, upwards of 500 race fans will be enjoying some of the finest cuisine and wine that Marin County has to offer.

Over 50 Marin County restaurants and Northern California wineries will set up shop in the Big Bike Tent in downtown Sausalito. The $75 admission to the event includes an evening of all-you-can-eat sumptuous sampling, elegant wine tasting, live music, and dancing to the beat of the Sun Kings, a Beatles cover band.

Dr. Massimo (Max) Testa, renown cycling trainer, physician and exercise physiologist who has worked with Lance Armstrong, will make a brief presentation, sign copies of his new book "Faster, Better, Stronger" (co-authored with Dr. Eric Heiden) and be available for informal Q&A. A cycling-wear fashion show and silent auction are also included in the evening.

Proceeds from the Sausalito Stage Two Tour de Cuisine will benefit the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Trips for Kids and Sausalito Bikes for Kids.

Restaurants that will be serving choice foods from their menus include: Angelinos, Buena Vista Coffee, Café DiVino, Citrus & Spice, Dees Organic Donuts, E&O Trading Company, Golden Gate Farmer's Market, Guaymas, Horizons, ITK, Lapperts Ice Cream, Left Bank, Le Garage, Marin Farmer's Market, Maria Maria, Melting Pot, Midnight Kitchen, Cavallo's Murray Circle, Paradise Bay, Piccolo Teatro, Poggio's, Saylors South of the Border, Servino, Sol Food, Spinnaker, Spring Hill, Sushi Ran, Sweet Cheeses, Taste of Rome, and The Bean Coffee Company.

Wineries that will be pouring include: Burgess, Carneros Creek, De Loach, Diamond Oaks, EOS, Frank Family, Gekkeikan Sake, Gloria Ferrer, Gunlach Bundschu, Heron, Louis Latour, Luis Felipe Edwards, Michael-David, Primus, Sake2Me, St. Clement, St. Supery, Starry Night, Susan Cellars, Taz, Veramonte, Wildhurst, and Yellow Jersey.

The Bubble Lounge -- back by popular demand -- will feature champagnes and sparkling wines; don't miss the sake-tasting or Dessert Row with its sweet treats and coffee bar. New this year is a "Made in Marin" section featuring select foods from local farmer's markets.

The Tour de Cuisine is one of many events that the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce and other local civic groups have scheduled throughout the President's Day Weekend culminating in the historic Stage Two start of the Amgen Tour of California which will cross the Golden Gate Bridge to Santa Cruz on Monday, February 16th. It will be the first time that a bike race has ever crossed the bridge. And while the cyclists have to be up at 5:30 AM to ingest a big breakfast well in advance of the 8:30 AM race start, the party hearty crew from the night before can sleep in a bit more and enjoy a Bloody Mary at the Biker's Brunch in Sausalito while they watch the race live on big screen TVs. The Tour de Cuisine Big Bike Tent stage from the night before will have been transformed into a Bike Expo and Biker Brunch buffet.

Tickets for the Tour de Cuisine and Biker's Brunch are available online at, or by calling the City of Sausalito at 415-289-4152. The Race and Bike Expo are FREE events. For additional information on weekend events, call the Sausalito Race Hotline at 415-289-4109.
