Save up to Hundreds of Dollars on Your Heating Bills; Supplement Your Heat With a Portable Heater

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - December 3, 2007) - Winter heating costs are expected to rise at least 22 percent, according to Energy Department's Energy Information Administration, and for many of us, that's a lot of money. Compound that with predictions that this winter is expected to be colder than last, and we're looking at a heating challenge for many households.

Heating oil customers will pay an average of $319 more this winter than last, in large part because of soaring crude oil prices. Natural gas customers are forecasted to pay $78, or 10 percent, more for heat between October and March. Oil and natural gas account for 25-40 million American households.

Those who use electricity aren't in the clear either. They will pay $32, or 4 percent, more this winter, with the price of power climbing 2 percent to 10.3 cents per kilowatt-hour. Thirty percent of households are heated by electricity.

How can you save money this winter? Heat the rooms you are in rather than the whole house. Portable heaters are a terrific way for households to save money on heating bills.

Portable heaters can supplement your central heating, keep drafty basements or workshops warm and create a personal level of comfort in whatever room you're in. According to the Rocky Mountain Institute, lowering your thermostat by just one degree can save you almost 2 percent in heating costs. Think of that as eliminating one whole oil or gas bill for many homeowners!
