Scalable Display Technologies' EasyBlend™ Software Selected to Calibrate Projection Dome for Warfighter Training Simulator

Completes Installation for Air Force Research Laboratory With MetaVR and IDSI

CAMBRIDGE, MA and BROOKLINE, MA and ACWORTH, GA--(Marketwire - October 4, 2010) -  Scalable Display Technologies, a leading provider of software for multi-projection display systems for flat or curved screens, together with Immersive Display Solutions, Inc. and MetaVR, Inc., today announced that the Air Force Research Laboratory, Warfighter Readiness Research Division in Mesa, AZ, (AFRL/Mesa) recently updated its F-16 Experimental Deployable Tactics Trainer (X-DTT) simulators to use Immersive Display Solutions' visual display systems, including portable domes, MetaVR visuals, and Scalable Display's EasyBlend FX calibration software.

The F-16 X-DTTs are deployable, medium fidelity, in-theater training systems for keeping the war fighter proficient between missions. Each simulator has six MetaVR Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG) projected views on an IDSI-supplied fiberglass 3.0-meter (diameter) transportable dome, providing 220-degree horizontal field-of-view (FOV) x 90-degree (+60/-30) FOV. Projection Design FL32 WUXGA projectors, equipped with wide-angle lenses, deliver 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution each. The system has an average blended resolution of 11.5 million pixels, equals 4.8 arc-min/OLP.

Scalable's EasyBlend FX software is fully integrated with MetaVR's VRSG for geometry warp and for auto alignment (edge blend) of all VRSG channels into a seamless image. The VRSG/EasyBlend integration eliminates the need for external warping boxes while adding zero delay in the signal path. Moreover, EasyBlend FX software offers the greatest level of geometric precision in the industry, making it the ideal auto-calibration technology for dome applications such as the X-DTT and JTAC applications. Using a patented camera-generated feedback system to calculate pixel-perfect instructions, or warp meshes, EasyBlend automatically calibrates the display and completes the task of aligning multiple projector display systems within seconds to achieve the highest quality multi-projector edge-blended images with rich and precise color.

The medium-fidelity X-DTT simulator consists of an F-16 Block 30 aircraft shell with the actual F-16 Operational Flight Program (OFP) and high-fidelity aircraft stick and throttle. These simulators provide the essential F-16 cockpit switches on a touch-screen LCD in front of the pilot.
