Scalent Expands Government Reseller Channel

Scalent, Epoch and Knight Point Team Up to Help Government Agencies Maximize the Benefits of Virtualization

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - March 3, 2008) - Scalent Systems, the leading provider of infrastructure virtualization software for large data centers, today announced that, as part of Scalent's expansion into government markets, it has added two of the nation's fastest growing federal IT solutions providers. Epoch Concepts, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOB), and Knight Point Systems, also a SDVOB, will both offer Scalent Virtual Operating Environment (V/OE) adaptive infrastructure software to government agencies.

Knight Point Systems is focused on making its customers successful in a very complex world, and its technical and operational resources are extremely adept in making the complex addressable and providing decision-making power to those who need it most, making Scalent the perfect addition to its portfolio of products and technologies. Knight Point, which has sold V/OE commercially, has now placed Scalent on the NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) schedule, and will soon place the IT vendor on the GSA schedule. For Epoch, its mission to improve the recovery time and recovery point objectives of government IT departments makes it a natural partner for Scalent Systems' real-time infrastructure focus.

"Our customers come to us because they see us as thought leaders that can help them to develop a world-class enterprise deployment that they can easily manage and one that cuts at the bottom line," said Marcus Smiley, president and CTO, Epoch Concepts. "Scalent is a great partner for us because they are also thought and technology leaders. Scalent is easy to deploy and delivers value right out of the box, accelerating the time to value for our customers and giving Epoch Concepts a competitive edge."

"Government agencies have recognized virtualization as a key technology in their drive to reduce costs, protect data, and keep systems operating through any crisis. These agencies trust Knight Point to help them get the most of their dollars and their IT teams," said Doug Duenkel, COO, Knight Point Systems. "Scalent helps us to meet -- and often times exceed -- those expectations, delivering on the promise of virtualization through the high availability of hardware and applications, and flexible resource allocation."

According to the report Virtualization for Government IT Infrastructure Consolidation(1) from Government Insights (an IDC Company), by 2010, 18.8 percent of the federal IT budget that is spent on new development will be supporting engineering toward virtualization. Through virtualization, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) estimates the federal government can save 16-27 percent annually on its aggregate IT infrastructure budget.

Epoch and Knight Point joins a growing list of Scalent resellers and technology partners, including EMC, IBM, HP, Unisys and VMWare that are sharing the benefits of Scalent's V/OE software with their own customers. Scalent V/OE offers data center administrators access to unparalleled virtualization tools enabling real-time moves to server and storage infrastructures, adding greater flexibility, the ability to drive down costs, and increase failover capabilities of data center systems. Scalent goes beyond the capabilities of traditional server virtualization to address real and virtual machines, network connectivity, and storage access.

Further, Scalent allows data center operators to rapidly change entire systems and associated topologies, including which servers are running, what software is running on them, and how they're connected to network and storage. Scalent does this in real-time without requiring physical changes to the infrastructure. Scalent V/OE software enables customers to take their data centers from "dead bare metal" (powered off hardware with no software installed) to live (newly deployed or restored), connected (to network and storage) servers, in five minutes or less.

"The government has committed to spending three cents of every dollar with Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses, and both Epoch and Knight Point offer potential customers a deeply experienced, highly effective organization that is paving the way for virtualization and utility computing in the government space," said Ali Zadeh, president, Scalent Systems. "The entrepreneurial spirit and significant relationships Epoch and Knight Point share with government agencies will significantly expand the opportunities for our products."
