Scalent Signs Agreement With Dell to OEM V/OE Infrastructure Manager for Delivering Dynamic Infrastructure

End-to-End Control of Servers, Network, and Storage for Rapid Provisioning, High Availability, and Enterprise Clouds

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - September 2, 2009) - Scalent Systems announced that Dell has signed an OEM agreement to deliver the Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager by Scalent. The Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager by Scalent allows enterprise data centers to reduce costs and improve system availability by adopting a dynamic approach to infrastructure provisioning.

The Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager by Scalent rapidly provisions what servers are running and how they are connected to networks and storage, without needing to make physical server, cable, or SAN changes.

Server provisioning becomes nearly instantaneous. Changing system function and topology doesn't require touching physical cables or servers. You can rack once, cable once, then reconfigure repeatedly, as needed, effortlessly. Both bare-metal and virtual machines are supported. End-to-end provisioning means servers, network, and storage access are provisioned simultaneously.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery are automatic. In the event of hardware failure an available server is re-provisioned to replace the failed one in minutes. All required network and storage access is configured automatically. Instead of hours of downtime, applications are back online in minutes.

Change is simple. Sometimes even the best-laid plans fail to predict real-world needs. If a workload was provisioned in a virtual machine but now needs to run on a bare-metal blade due to higher demand, Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager assures a smooth move in minutes.

The Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager by Scalent is a software-only solution. It does not require proprietary hardware modules or gateways -- it works with industry standard servers, Ethernet switches, and Fiber Channel switches. It is certified for use with select Dell servers and network switches from Dell, Cisco and Brocade. The product also supports a multi-vendor array of servers, network switches, and storage devices preciously certified by Scalent that customers already have in their infrastructure.

"Dell is focused on preserving customer choice and delivering an open, pragmatic and end-to-end experience for our customers. Scalent's approach is in line with Dell's philosophy in that the customer wins when they control their infrastructure decisions and are not locked into a predetermined hardware or software approach," said Praveen Asthana, Vice President, Storage & Networking at Dell.

"Scalent and Dell are aiming at the same goal -- to radically decrease cost and complexity in datacenters. The Dell V/OE Infrastructure Manager By Scalent will allow Dell customers to rapidly implement a more dynamic infrastructure -- one that is easy to provision, highly reliable, and simple to change," said Benjamin Linder, CEO of Scalent Systems.
