Scania Hits the Road With iPass
Remote and Mobile Employees to Become Wi-Fi Warriors
| Source: iPass
REDWOOD SHORES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 2, 2007 -- iPass Inc. (NASDAQ : IPAS ), a global
provider of services that unify the management of enterprise mobility,
today announced that Scania, one of the world's leading manufacturers of
trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and
marine engines, is rolling out iPass Mobile Office to its global remote
workforce. The deployment is being implemented and managed by Flexible
Networks Nordic (FlexiNets®), a Swedish remote access specialist and
Certified iPass Solution Partner. A Global 2000 company with headquarters
in Sweden and operations across 100 countries, Scania required a remote
access solution that would enable its employees to take advantage of
wireless technologies to stay productive while on the road.
Scania selected iPass Mobile Office after benchmarking it against its
existing remote access solution. iPass stood out for its usability and
expansive global Wi-Fi footprint, which includes more than 76,000 Wi-Fi
hotspots and coverage in 76 of the world's top hundred airports by
passenger traffic. Scania's existing remote access solution offered mostly
dial-up connectivity but was lacking in its global Wi-Fi coverage which
Scania's employees required to gain high-speed and reliable access to
business-critical resources while out of the office.
"Wi-Fi was the missing link in our mobile connectivity strategy. The
technology has come into its own over the last two years and we wanted to
take advantage of that. Our employees are distributed across 100
countries, with many travelling regularly across Europe and South America,
so finding a solution that could offer true global Wi-Fi coverage, not just
pockets of coverage, was our number one priority. We also appreciated
FlexiNets' ability to split costs across regions and business units,"
commented Jens Satero, Sourcing Manager, Scania.
Flexinets will initially roll out the iPass solution to 500-600 Scania
employees, with a view to increasing the number of users as remote working
grows increasingly more important within the company. The employees
represent a wide cross segment of Scania's business from engineering and
management to sales and marketing executives.
"During the pilot phase, feedback on the iPass solution was very positive.
Many commented that the service was much easier to use than the previous
remote access provider. The solution also fits well with Scania's growth
plans as the iPass client has been designed to support emerging
technologies such as HSDPA and WiMax," commented Martin Solang, Sales
Manager, Flexinets.
"Scania's transition from dial-up to Wi-Fi mirrors that of many other
companies with large mobile workforces. Now that Wi-Fi is widely available
in hotels, airports, cafés and conference centers, companies are realizing
they can benefit from high speed connectivity wherever they are located,"
said Doug Loewe, vice president and managing director, iPass EMEA. "We're
confident that Flexinets will deliver a strong solution that will enable
Scania's employees to maximize their productivity."
