TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2012) - David (Luxin) Zhang, of Scarborough's Agincourt Collegiate Institute, is a 1st place winner of the 2012 edition of the COIN Competition. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario held its annual competition on May 23 to give high school students considering a career as a Chartered Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes. As one of the top 20 students in the province, he's invited to attend an Honour Roll luncheon in Toronto on June 12.
"COIN is a popular Institute initiative to encourage students to consider becoming a Chartered Accountant," said Mona Ghiami, Director of Career Information at the Institute. "This year more than 280 students from 96 high schools across the province participated in this highly competitive contest."
For finishing 1st, David (Luxin) Zhang receives $1,500 and a plaque. Five other local students were also honoured as part of the Top 20, each receiving $100: Arun Thiru, Harish Sivarajah, and Tharsan Raveenthiran of Albert Campbell Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Amarindi Cooray of L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, and Angus Cao of Agincourt Collegiate Institute in Scarborough who also took 3rd place all Ontario in the 2011 contest.
The Institute also announced the top contest winners from across Ontario. The first place prize provincially is $1,500, with the second place winner receiving $1,000 and third place getting $500, and the rest of the Top 20 Honour Roll members each receiving $100.
The Ontario-wide winners are:
- 1st place All Ontario - David (Luxin) Zhang, Agincourt Collegiate Institute, Scarborough
- 2nd place All Ontario - Michael Chan, Thornhill Secondary School, York Region
- 3rd place All Ontario (Tied) - Zhengzheng Tao, The Woodlands School, Mississauga
- 3rd place All Ontario (Tied) - ZhiHao Ouyang, The Woodlands School, Mississauga
To win, the students competed by answering 75-questions at the premises of a firm employing CAs. Think it's easy? Would you know:
