Scarsdale Plastic Surgeon Describes Breast Augmentation Process From Start to Finish

Dr. Neal Goldberg Recently Detailed the Typical Consultation, Surgical Procedure, and Recovery Experience as a Helpful Resource for Patients Considering Breast Augmentation

SCARSDALE, NY--(Marketwired - Feb 26, 2015) - Patients may believe that the most complicated aspect of a breast augmentation is the surgical procedure; however, the consultation typically involves the greatest amount of consideration, explains Dr. Neal Goldberg, a plastic surgeon in Scarsdale. To help women become well informed about this popular cosmetic enhancement, he says he strives to educate individuals about every phase of the breast enlargement process, from consultation to recovery. By doing so, he believes that women will be better prepared for the operation and more satisfied with the outcome.

As far as what to expect from the breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Goldberg indicates that women should be prepared to discuss their cosmetic goals, medical history, and the type of breast implant they prefer. Furthermore, he says there will be a physical examination to help determine if they are qualified candidates for the procedure. The Scarsdale plastic surgeon notes that he is not tied to any single brand of implant and offers the full range of available options, including saline, silicone, round, shaped, textured, and smooth implants. He says he prefers that patients return for a second consultation prior to scheduling the operation to determine the desired size and location of the breasts and address any lingering questions and concerns.

Prior to the surgery day, patients typically will be asked to abstain from eating or drinking for 24 hours, Dr. Goldberg explains, and they should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications, such as aspirin, for about two weeks before the operation date. Besides that, he remarks, there will be very little for women to do to prepare for breast augmentation. Once an individual arrives to the surgical site, he says she typically will meet with the nurse, the anesthesiologist, and the attending plastic surgeon before being sedated via IV. He states that after the procedure is complete, the patient can return home once deemed appropriate by the surgeon, usually after she can eat, use the bathroom, and walk around. The breast augmentation recovery experience begins when she leaves the office or hospital, he emphasizes. He often recommends that women take at least a week off from work and normal activities and to refrain from strenuous activities for the first six weeks. Furthermore, he adds that women will be expected to wear dressings and potentially a special bra for a certain time period to help ensure the breasts heal in the desired position.

Ultimately, Dr. Goldberg endeavors to provide a helpful resource to assist patients considering breast augmentation, and the consultation can be one of the best opportunities to discuss in detail every step of the process. With his considerable experience, he says he often can assess which size and type of implant will be the best possible option for a woman, and rarely do his patients later decide that their results are too big or too small; however, the decision will be up to the woman, and the better educated she is the more likely the outcome will be as desired.
