Schenker To Use Descartes' Local Haulage Service'TM' To Integrate Its Pick-Up And Delivery Agents Across North America

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 2, 2005) -

Descartes' Global Logistics Network™ Empowering Leading Freight Forwarder to Reduce Transportation Costs and Increase Visibility to Shipments

The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (NASDAQ:DSGX)(TSX:DSG), a leading provider of on-demand delivery management solutions and services for transportation, logistics, manufacturing, retail and distribution enterprises, today announced that Schenker, Inc., a leading international air and ocean freight forwarding, customs brokerage and logistics services provider, has signed a multi-year agreement for Descartes' Local Haulage™ Service to help manage Schenker's carrier network across North America.

"This new, progressive freight management initiative represents a significant cost savings opportunity for Schenker in terms of transportation spending and internal resources allocation," said Dennis Stoove, Executive Vice President and CIO of Schenker. "Descartes' Local Haulage Service will give our regional and corporate offices the ability to consolidate shipments for increased transportation savings; select the most appropriate carriers; communicate electronically with the selected carriers; and then audit their invoices."

Descartes' Local Haulage Service leverages the power of Descartes' Global Logistics Network (GLN), one of the world's largest logistics-focused networks, to give Schenker access to hundreds of its carrier partners who are already on the network, and the ability to rapidly connect others in its carrier community. Schenker plans to use the new Descartes Local Haulage Service to:

- Optimize shipments by selecting the lowest cost provider, consolidate loads and increase back hauls;

- Streamline procurement by electronically tendering freight using the GLN and its network of North American carriers;

- Track delivery status through automated and webform-based collection of electronic pick-up and delivery messages; and

- Streamline freight bill auditing by automating the processing of carrier bills across the organization.

Schenker evaluated several solutions and selected Descartes' service because of its functionality, ease of deployment and strong market presence in the global transportation marketplace. "Most of our air, ocean and surface transport carriers are already members of the GLN," said John Husveth, Director, USA Transportation Services for Schenker.

"GLN services are used by major air, ocean and surface carriers and in the offices of more than 5,000 freight forwarders worldwide," said Arthur Mesher, CEO of Descartes. "We are excited about the opportunity to continue to deliver added value to Schenker, their customers and their transportation partners through our Global Logistics Network."
