Schneider Electric Data Center Reference Designs Accelerate and Simplify Projects

Schneider Electric First to Offer Documented and Validated Physical Infrastructure Designs via a Public, Interactive Design Selector

WEST KINGSTON, RI--(Marketwired - Sep 18, 2013) -  Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced the public availability of reference designs for data center infrastructure. These easy-to-use project planning tools cover the electrical, mechanical, and IT spaces, as well as their interconnections to each other. Each design includes:

  • Design summary with standardized performance attributes
  • Engineering package containing:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Piping diagrams
    • Dimensioned floor layouts
    • Bill of materials

Pre-engineered and developed from proven experience, reference designs simplify and shorten the project planning cycle. It is possible to save several weeks, if not, months of precious and costly time. Project teams can rapidly and accurately compare design scenarios and evaluate their tradeoffs. Stakeholders can more easily come to solid agreement on key project parameters such as capacity, criticality, density, efficiency, and budget. These high quality early decisions reduce the number of iterations in the detailed design phase, expedite the build phase, and make each phase of the project more predictable.

"Customers of all types -- from enterprise to colocation to cloud providers -- place a high value on the ability to simplify and reduce the time needed to plan and design a data center project," said Kevin Brown, Vice President, Global Data Center Offer at Schneider Electric. "And for many, it is neither practical nor cost effective to completely engineer all aspects of a unique data center. Schneider Electric's data center reference designs help customers obtain this value by providing them an easy way to rapidly and accurately compare design alternatives."

Acting as a common platform and language for discussion, reference designs are a great starting point for any new or retrofit project. By the end of the year this library will contain over 50 designs and will continue to evolve and grow long into the future as new design concepts are developed, documented, and validated.

To access the designs via the Reference Design Selector -- the first of its kind -- click here and look under "Design Tools." The seven page design summary document can be downloaded from here. The engineering package containing the one-lines, piping diagrams, floor layouts and bill of materials is available upon request by emailing DataCenterDesigns@Schneider-Electric.com or by contacting your local Schneider Electric Representative.
