Scotiabank Place to Host the Second Annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic on Jan. 26

This year's event between Gee-Gees and Ravens to feature both men's and women's games

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 19, 2007) - Scotiabank Place, the University of Ottawa and Carleton University announced today that Scotiabank Place will host the second annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic on Saturday, Jan. 26. This year's Hoops Classic will feature two games, with a women's basketball game between the Carleton Ravens and the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees at 5:45 p.m., followed by the rematch of last year's thrilling men's game between the Ravens and Gee-Gees set for an 8 p.m. tip-off.

This event is the second of what will now be an annual regular-season affair between the two schools and will present some of the finest basketball players in the country. The University of Ottawa continues to be one of the most competitive programs in Canada, finishing second to Carleton with an impressive 18-4 record during the 2006-07 regular season. The Carleton University men's basketball team enters the 2007-08 season as five-time defending national champions, an unprecedented string of success.

The first annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic, held in January 2007, set a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) regular-season record by drawing 9,720 fans and saw the Gee-Gees edge the Ravens 64-62.

"After the tremendous success of last year's record-setting event, we're can't wait for the MBNA Capital Hoops Classic to return," said Cyril Leeder, COO of Scotiabank Place. "Not only do fans get to see two of the best men's basketball teams in the country, but we're happy to expand the event to include a women's game between the two schools this year. Tickets are affordable, the large student body presence creates a fabulous atmosphere and it's some of the best basketball played in the country - all right here at Scotiabank Place."

The second annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic will lead area basketball fans into the CIS men's basketball championship, which will be staged at Scotiabank Place in March of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
