Scott E. Kalb, Former Chief Investment Officer of the Korea Investment Corp. (KIC), Joins Institutional Investor, Inc. as Executive Director of II's Sovereign Investor Institute

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jan 10, 2013) - Scott E. Kalb, the former Chief Investment Officer and Deputy CEO of the Korea Investment Corp. (KIC), one of the world's foremost sovereign wealth funds, has joined Institutional Investor, Inc. as Executive Director of the Sovereign Investor Institute (SII).

One of Institutional Investor's 13 private membership organizations, SII is a think tank that brings together senior officials of sovereign wealth funds, other government investment funds and leading asset management firms to discuss investment strategies as well as governance and organizational issues. Officials from more than 200 sovereign funds attend SII's four annual Roundtables, held in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, and also benefit from the Investor Intelligence Network (IIN), a private information-sharing and research platform created to serve institutional investors around the world. While serving at the KIC during 2009-2012, Mr. Kalb played a leading role in building out the fund, successfully and profitably diversifying the portfolio across a broad array of traditional and alternative asset classes while presiding over growth in AUM from $19 billion to $50 billion. Prior to joining the KIC, Mr. Kalb had spent more than twenty five years in the financial markets, most recently serving as Senior Portfolio Manager at Balyasny Asset Management, Managing Partner at Black Arrow Capital Management and Senior Portfolio Manager at Tudor. Mr. Kalb is founder and CEO of KLTI Advisors.

"Over the last decade sovereign funds have grown tremendously in numbers and in assets under management, yet they are not well understood by the financial community and remain under-served by it," said Mr. Kalb. He added that he was drawn to the Sovereign Investor Institute because he feels it is uniquely positioned to remedy this situation. "SII provides an independent, intellectually rigorous platform for sovereign funds to gather together, learn from one another, hear from top academics, government leaders and market experts and stay current on pressing policy issues."

Mr. Kalb said one of his principal goals at the SII will be to involve more officials at the highest levels from some of the largest and most sophisticated sovereign funds. "There is a real need for objective, in-depth research on critical investment issues facing sovereign funds today. I believe SII can meet that need," he said.

Institutional Investor Chairman Diane Alfano said, "We are thrilled that such a well-regarded sovereign fund executive and investment expert has joined our team." She noted that Institutional Investor "began holding meetings for sovereign funds back in 2005, before they were widely recognized as a powerful force in the investment world." With Mr. Kalb "leading the Sovereign Investor Institute," she added, "We can take the SII to a new level in serving the expanding needs of a set of institutions that are of increasing importance in the investment world."

Ms. Alfano added that the development of the Sovereign Investor Institute and the Investor Intelligence Network coincides with another initiative at Institutional Investor: The Sovereign Wealth Center. The Sovereign Wealth Center is a new Institutional Investor research division that aims to provide accurate data on SWF investment deal flow and balanced, insightful expert analysis of SWF portfolio strategies, investment behavior and organization.
