Scottish and Southern Energy to Complete FGD Retrofit at Fiddlers Ferry and Ferrybridge C Power Stations by Year's End, an Industrial Info News Alert

CORDOBA, ARGENTINA--(Marketwire - June 26, 2008) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Scottish and Southern Energy PLC (SSE) (LSE:SSE) (Perth, United Kingdom) expects to complete flue gas desulfurization retrofits that will service two of the four existing Babcock boilers at Fiddlers Ferry and Ferrybridge C power stations, each with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW), by the end of the year. This efficiency improvement is to reduce the environmental impact of sulfur dioxide. Both Ferrybridge C and Fiddlers Ferry power stations comprise four 500-MW steam turbines, using 800 tonnes of coal and 218 million liters of water per hour for cooling. Ferrybridge C was the first power station in Europe to supply energy to the National Grid (NYSE:NGG) (London) in 1966.
