LONDON, ENGLAND--(CCNMatthews - July. 12, 2005) - Supporting the UK premiere of Gaby Dellal's feature, "On A Clear Day" will be the film's Scottish stars, Peter Mullan, Billy Boyd and Jamie Sives. Brenda Blethyn will also attend. The film is due to premiere at EIFF as part of a host of UK, International and World Premieres to grace this year's festival.

EIFF Artistic Director, Shane Danielsen said: "On A Clear Day is an unusually persuasive example of British commercial filmmaking - with uniformly strong performances, and some very fine-looking locations ... mostly Scottish, I'm pleased to say. I'm sure it will delight our audience here at EIFF."

"On A Clear Day" Director, Gaby Dellal said: "I enjoyed my time living in Glasgow immensely, working with the Scottish crew. I feel very proud to have worked with Peter Mullan and it is an honour to have the UK premiere in Scotland, especially at my favourite film festival. I could not dream of a more perfect place to launch On a Clear Day."

"A heartfelt, triumph-over-adversity, laughter-through-tears story aimed at the folks who lapped up Calendar Girls and The Full Monty... Mullan is riveting"

Press Notes: On A Clear Day

Rousing, likeable story of one man's determination; fans of The Full Monty will be well satisfied.

Laid off from his job after almost 40 years, Frank (Peter Mullan) is suffering a life crisis. His solution - to swim the English Channel - seems faintly quixotic, until you discover the demons in his past with which he's still trying to come to terms, decades later ... He's aided in his quest for self-esteem by four friends, and their adventures, both separately and together, form the basis of this charming, crowd pleasing comedy-drama. Ably supported by co-stars Brenda Blethyn and Billy Boyd, Mullan delivers a performance of unusual warmth and conviction, and the ending will melt the hardest of hearts.
