Screen Actors Guild National Executive Director at TOWN HALL Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - February 3, 2011) - David White, National Executive Director of Screen Actors Guild (SAG) will address Town Hall Los Angeles on "Challenges and Opportunities: Actors in the Digital Age," Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.

"We are living in a time of sweeping change," says White. "Throughout history, each evolution in technology has produced a revolution in products, platforms, audience viewing habits and, fortunately, new opportunities for America's modern day storytellers. With change comes uncertainty, but with smart responses, we've always adapted to ensure that this change also expands opportunities for our members."

"One of our top priorities is the battle against digital theft, which costs the entertainment industry and economy hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues and jobs. Our concern is not only for the talent working today, but for the actors, directors, writers and craftspeople of the future," White said. "We must all work to end this destructive practice and to identify new ways to protect an industry that is a unique art form and a critical part of the Southern California economy."

White was appointed to his current position in October 2009, after serving as Interim Executive Director and previously, as General Counsel. In 2010, he was recognized by the National Bar Association as Entertainment, Sports & Art Law Attorney of the Year. He is Chair of the Screen Actors Guild-Producers Pension and Health Funds, Chair of the Grinnell College Board of Trustees and is a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers of America.

Screen Actors Guild was established in 1933, and is the nation's largest union representing working actors. Past Guild presidents include Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, Edward Asner, William Daniels, and current president, Ken Howard.
