Sea Colony's Freeman Fitness Center Reopens

Bethany Beach, Delaware Resort Amenity Nearly Doubled in Size; Renovation Project Finished on Time and Under Budget

BETHANY BEACH, DE--(Marketwired - May 28, 2016) -  The Freeman Fitness Center at Sea Colony is open for business. On Saturday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m., the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and Sea Colony owners will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The public is invited to attend and tour the facility.

Baltimore-based Whiting Turner, a global construction company with offices in Salisbury, Md., and Newark, Del., started the renovation project in July 2015. Shortly after Labor Day, the facility closed, and 10 months later, the fitness center is nearly doubled in size and definitely embodies an amenity fitting a premier family beach and tennis resort community.

Upgrades include a new larger, deeper and more accessible indoor pool, hot tub and sauna with more deck space; a new aerobics room with a sound and audio visual system for screening movies; a modernized cardio and weight room with new equipment that supports expanded workout activities; larger and updated locker rooms for men, women and families; expanded parking; and major infrastructure changes, including electrical, high efficiency LED lighting, HVAC, plumbing and security.

Sea Colony Recreational Association Board President Ron Wickwire and Treasurer Roy Zatcoff provided oversight as owner representatives, which saved the community significant cost.

"The Freeman Fitness Center is a tribute to Sea Colony and our owners, who will love the facility," Wickwire said.

"The Whiting Turner staff is terrific, and it was a great decision to hire them. Overall, we came in on time and under budget," Zatcoff said. "This is wonderful for our community, and a testimony to a very successful collaboration."

Just south of Bethany Beach, Del., the Sea Colony private beach and tennis resort offers owners and guests access to a half mile of private, guarded beach, 11 pools, world class tennis instructors and facilities on 34 tennis courts -- including six indoor courts, and the Freeman Fitness Center with a 25-yard lap and recreational indoor pool and programs for all ages.
