SeaMicro Enters the Japanese Market

Billion-Dollar Integrator Net One Systems to Resell SeaMicro Products Throughout Japan

TOKYO--(Marketwire - June 20, 2010) -  SeaMicro®, a Silicon Valley pioneer of low power server technology, today announced a distribution agreement with Japan's premier system integrator; Net One Systems. Last week SeaMicro dazzled the industry by unveiling the SM10000™ low-power, small form-factor server, which replaces 40 standard servers but uses one-quarter of the power and takes one quarter of the space. SeaMicro's SM10000 combines 512 low-power 1.6GHz Intel Atom processors, storage, Ethernet switching, load balancing and server management, in a standards-based, plug and play system measuring 17.5 inches tall. Today, SeaMicro goes global, extending its reach into Japan, the second largest server market in the world. Japanese customers pay among the highest prices in the world for electricity and for data-center space, creating a natural opportunity for SeaMicro's innovative low power, small form-factor servers.

"Net One Systems is focused on meeting the stringent demands of our datacenter customers," said Net One Systems President & CEO Takayuki Yoshino. "Based on customer feedback from all parts of the data center market, we are convinced that SeaMicro's SM10000 will have a huge impact on the market in Japan."

Net One Systems is a pioneer in bringing innovative technologies from Silicon Valley to Japan. With nearly 2,000 employees and sales in excess of $1.2 billion dollars, Net One Systems is widely regarded as one of the premier technology integrators in the world.

The SM10000 simplifies data center operations and management by eliminating layers of switches, terminal servers and load-balancing devices. The system is built on standards-based x86 CPUs, which means it is plug and play -- customers can deploy the SM10000 without modifications to existing operating systems, application software or management tools.

SeaMicro's SM10000 system is comprised of:

  • 512 1.6GHz Intel Atom processors
  • 1 terabyte of DRAM
  • 0 - 64 SATA solid state or hard disk drives
  • 8 - 64 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks; or 2-16 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks
  • The entire system is 10 rack units tall (17.5 inches tall).

Benefits of the SM10000 architecture include

  • using one-quarter of the power and taking one-quarter of the space to do the same work as the best-in-class server,
  • industry leading density: 2048 central processing units (CPUs) per standard rack,
  • drop-in adoption by running off-the-shelf OSs and applications without change,
  • flexible architecture that can support any CPU architecture.

"We are proud that our first distribution agreement is with Net One Systems in Japan," said SeaMicro's President and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Feldman. "Net One Systems' deep technical expertise, and long tradition of bringing leadership product to market, have made them a premier provider of data center solutions. Net One Systems quickly recognized the potential for SeaMicro's solutions and have worked with us for the past 18 months to ensure our product meets the needs of Japanese customers. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship."
