Searchme Names Ralph Rabbat as Chief Software Architect

Former Yahoo! Manager Joins Bay Area's Fast Growing Search Company

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 26, 2007 -- Searchme, Inc. (, an emerging search company backed by Sequoia Capital, today announced that Dr. Ralph Rabbat has joined Searchme as Chief Software Architect. A search veteran from Yahoo!, Rabbat brings a proven and rich history in search technology development to the company and will be leading Searchme's technical team. He is chartered with developing new search tools that bring together vertical search, tagging and community collaboration into one powerful interface, enabling search engines to deliver timely and relevant information to searchers on the first page.

Rabbat served as an engineering manager in Yahoo!'s Search group, leading its search user behavior mining and analysis team. While at Yahoo!, he created and launched "Live Search" on and Yahoo! Toolbar. He also worked closely with Mozilla to include Yahoo! Suggestions in the Firefox browser. He provided searchers with tools to find their answers faster with the inclusion of "Also Try" on In addition, he developed ad products in US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, France and Germany that increased ad coverage, resulting in boosted revenue per search by 3-9% per market. Rabbat lead the development of the query classification platform for implicit Yahoo! Shortcuts and Yahoo! Mobile Go. Rabbat was also responsible for launching Yahoo!'s first major Ajax product, "Instant Search."

Prior to Yahoo!, Rabbat served as senior software engineer at Basis Technology Corporation and as a research assistant at the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives at MIT.

Rabbat holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Information Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the American University of Beirut. Rabbat's thesis work has been published and he has spoken at the 6th Annual International Conference on Research in Computational Molecular Biology and the 7th IEEE International Conference on Electronics Circuits and Systems (ICECS'2K). He is a recipient of the Yahoo! Teddy Roosevelt Award, the MIT Program of the Year Award and is an honorary member of Sigma XI.
