Season 2 of My RONA Home Offers Fast-Paced Entertainment as Two Families Compete to Build and Win Their Dream Homes

My RONA Home once again includes LEED(R) Canada for Homes, the recognized certification program for eco-responsible home construction, and introduces RONA by Design

BOUCHERVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 8, 2011) - RONA inc. (TSX:RON)(TSX:RON.PR.A), the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening products, is proud to announce the launch of the second season of its reality TV series, My RONA Home. The first one-hour episode of the ten-part season will premiere Sunday, April 10 at 9:00 pm EDT/PDT (8:00 pm CDT, 10:00pm MDT) on Citytv.

Hosted by Elissa Lansdell, season two of My RONA Home follows two families – Robyn and Jordan Ausmus (Blue Team) and Raegan and Jesse Maley (Yellow Team) – in a competition to see who can best design, construct and decorate a brand new home. In an intense race against time, each family is matched up with a handyman as well as two experts consisting of a contractor and an interior designer. Together they will work room-by-room, with a deadline of 30 hours to radically transform empty spaces, ultimately turning the shell of a house into a home. With each grueling challenge, the competition intensifies and becomes more emotional as these families struggle to out-build, out-design and out-decorate one another, working and living side by side.

Ultimately Canadian viewers will have the final say on which couple will win their dream home. Following each episode, Citytv viewers have the opportunity to vote online at www.Citytv.com/myRONAhome or by phone at 1-900-630-7662, for the team they think did the best overall job that week. The team with the most votes at the end of the 10-week season will have their lives transformed as they win their dream home– plus the entire contents of furniture, appliances and electronics inside valued at $450,000!

"We were pleased with the success of the first season of My RONA Home so we're glad to repeat the experience this year, because these are thrilling, life-changing situations for both of these families, which makes for fascinating and emotional viewing," said Claude Bernier, Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Customer Innovations, RONA. "The show is more than just another home improvement series, though. MY RONA Home shows viewers how we can all reduce our impact on the environment. At RONA, we are honoured to be the presenters of a Canadian television show featuring the construction of houses being built to the LEED® Canada for Homes standard."

RONA by Design features into the show

My RONA Home will feature new trends in decoration and renovation, with each home incorporating personal design decisions unique to each family and their needs.

"As something new to this year's show, RONA will provide participating families with renovation and decoration suggestions and solutions from RONA by Design, a collection of layout and decoration ideas created by design and fashion experts to inspire and guide consumers in their home renovation projects," Bernier continued. "Viewers who want to use RONA by Design ideas in their own homes will be able to pick up all the tips, products and services they need in our RONA stores."

RONA by Design projects have been created for different rooms in the home, including the bathroom, living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, office, basement and, of course, the garden and deck…and even storage rooms (entry, closet, laundry room). Three distinctive styles are offered to guide consumers: authentic, charming and contemporary.

My RONA Homeand the environment

LEED® Canada for Homes is a certification system designed to promote the design and construction of high-performance green houses. To receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, houses must be constructed with particular attention to energy efficiency, water efficiency, materials and indoor air quality.

To gain points toward LEED Canada for Homes certification, the houses featured in My RONA Home will incorporate many eco-responsible products, such as: FSC-certified lumber and materials from local suppliers, low flow faucets and dual flush toilets, low VOC (volatile organic compound) and recycled paint, Energy Star® and CSA-certified windows, and more. Landscaping around the homes will also be designed to minimise water consumption by using plants and drought-tolerant grass seed.

"At RONA, our commitment to the environment calls for rigour and transparency," Mr. Bernier said. "We have selected the life-cycle approach as the basis for all our environmental initiatives. Featuring LEED techniques on My RONA Home is another example of this."

RONA's unique commitment to the demanding LEED system for eco-responsible construction extends beyond its TV series. In Canada, 7 RONA stores under various banners are in the process of gaining LEED certification. Built using highly evolved construction components that save water and energy and reduce waste production, these stores are among the select commercial buildings in Canada that are built to respect the environment.
