SECOND ROUND CANCELLED AT CANADIAN WOMEN'S SENIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor DEWINTON, ALTA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 24, 2005) - Second round play at the Royale National Women's Senior Golf Championship conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association has been cancelled due to inclement weather in the Calgary region.

Second round play did not commence due to wet course conditions. Organizers have made a decision to shorten the competition to 36 holes of play and the draw for the final round will be based on first round scores. The final round draw will be posted online at www.rcga.org by 10:30 am (MDT).

So far over 50 millimetres of rain have accumulated since Tuesday afternoon and rain will continue well into Wednesday evening. Environment Canada's heavy rainfall warning is still in effect for the Calgary region and they are predicting another 15-25mm before rain ends.

Environment Canada is calling for clear and sunny weather for Thursday with a high of 20 degrees Celsius.

Conducted since 1971, the Canadian Senior Women's Championship has featured many of the countries top senior golfers. Canadian Golf Hall of Fame members, Marlene Streit, Gayle Borthwick, Marilyn O'Connor and Margaret Todd all own senior titles.

The rain-shortened Royale National Women's Senior Championship, conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association, will be contested over two rounds of stroke play (36-holes). Any tie after 36 holes will result in a sudden-death playoff. An Inter-provincial Team Championship will take place in conjunction with the championship.

For a complete list of competitors, starting times and full post-round results for the 2005 Royale National Women's Senior Championship can be found at www.rcga.org.
