Secretary of State Kenney Attends Tibet Canada Fundraiser to Benefit Orphans

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 14, 2008) - The Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will attend the Tibet Canada Women's Foundation Annual Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction on March 15, 2008, in Calgary.

"This annual fundraiser plays an important role in enabling the Tibet Canada Women's Foundation to help Tibetans, both in Canada and in their homeland," said Secretary of State Kenney. "Our Government is committed to promoting freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The Tibet Canada Women's Foundation clearly reflects these values in its work with orphans, refugees, and women in Tibet. It also helps new immigrants to Canada integrate into our society."

The Tibet Women's Foundation supports an orphanage housing more than 100 children. Each year, a volunteer team travels to Tibet with supplies and educational materials for the orphanage. The team also provides medical and dental support

The Government of Canada is committed to reaching out to all Canadians and is developing lasting relationships with ethnic and religious communities in Canada. It encourages these communities to participate fully in Canadian society by enhancing their level of economic, social, and cultural integration.
