Secretary of State Christian Paradis to Attend Banquet at Quebec City Knights of Columbus Annual Convention

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 18, 2008) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Secretary of State (Agriculture) and Member of Parliament (Megantic-L'Erable), on behalf of the Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), will attend the banquet at the Quebec City Knights of Columbus Annual Convention tomorrow. The convention, which takes place from April 18 to 20, is an opportunity for members to meet, conduct annual elections, and distribute financial contributions to charities.

"Canada has long been a country where the fundamental values of freedom, democracy, sharing, and human rights are at the core of its identity," said Secretary of State Kenney. "I would like to commend organizations like the Knights of Columbus that promote helping one another, civic participation, and a sense of belonging."

"By bringing Canadians of all backgrounds closer together, the Knights of Columbus are helping make Canada a better place to live," said Secretary of State Paradis.

The Order of the Knights of Columbus celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2007. Today, it is the largest Catholic men's organization in the world. The Knights provide assistance to their parishes and communities, and to families and people in need. Members are encouraged to get involved in social and intellectual activities. They also promote and manage educational, charitable, religious, and social works.
