SecureWorks Counter Threat Unit Researcher Joe Stewart to Keynote the Anti-Phishing Working Group Summit

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - October 19, 2009) - SecureWorks®, a leading, global provider of security services protecting 2,600 clients worldwide, announced today that SecureWorks' Counter Threat Unit(SM) (CTU) security researcher Joe Stewart will keynote the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) Meeting and eCrime Researchers Summit in Tacoma, Washington, October 19. APWG is a leading global industry, law enforcement, and government coalition focused on eliminating identity theft and fraud resulting from phishing, email spoofing, and crimeware. eCrime '09 will bring together academic researchers, security practitioners and law enforcement to discuss all aspects of electronic crime and ways to combat cyber threats.

Stewart, an expert on Internet threats, will discuss the Clampi Trojan. He was the first to discover the interworkings of the very pervasive Trojan which is stealing tremendous amounts of data, including banking credentials, from infected corporate and home computers. He found in recent months that Clampi has successfully infiltrated Microsoft networks in a worm-like fashion. Stewart predicts that hundreds of thousands of corporate and home pc users are infected with the Trojan. His keynote will outline the characteristics of Clampi and its behavior and provide mitigation and prevention techniques for effectively dealing with the Trojan.

Stewart is a frequent commentator on security issues for leading media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. Stewart has presented his security research at many conferences worldwide. In his role as Director of Malware Research for SecureWorks' CTU, Stewart works alongside a team of expert security researchers to identify and analyze emerging threats and develop countermeasures to protect clients' critical information assets.
